Beginning in
May, Canvas will sport a new look. Don’t panic though, the functionality and
course organization won’t change.
This summer,
Canvas is switching to a new User Interface. The new Canvas User Interface (UI) is an updated interface structure
enhanced by a responsive user experience for the Dashboard and Global
Navigation menu. The Course Navigation menu also collapses on smaller screens,
allowing for a more content-focused and responsive layout.
The New Canvas User Interface (UI)
includes two main components: the Dashboard and the Global Navigation Menu. The
Dashboard defaults to the new course view, which has a ‘Mobile’ look, utilizing
tiles for access to courses. The Global Navigation Menu has been moved from the
top of the page to the left side and still provides quick links to all main
Canvas areas and can be accessed from any area in Canvas. Your To Do list still
appears on the right side of the page.
The Course layout will not change.
The course
navigation remains on the left side. Course content is in the middle of the
page and the To Do list is on the right, as always.

The Learning
Technologies team will be reaching out to Faculty and Students during April and
May to provide information and assistance to make the UI transition as painless
as possible.
